BAHAWALPUR: Police claimed to have recovered a man, a resident of Thatha Sadiqabad near Jahanian, Khanewal district, who was allegedly kidnapped for ransom by Katcha area dacoits through a honey-trap network, 20 days ago. According to police ‘anti-honey trap cell’ officials, Shabeer Anjum, a newspaper correspondent and a resident of 132/10-R village near Jahanian, was kidnapped on his way to Karachi on Oct 4. He was allegedly kidnapped through a honey trap near Shikarpur, Sindh, by Katcha area dacoits, who took him to their hideout in the forest area, the police sources said. The kidnappers allegedly demanded Rs20 million ransom from Anjum’s family, they added. The sources said on the request of the victim’s family, former minister Rai Mansab Ali, went to Sukkur and informed the DIG concerned of the episode, seeking his intervention. On the orders of the DIG, a heavy contingent of police, assisted by Rangers, raided the dacoits’ hideout and recovered Anjum, who reached his home on Friday.
