Punjab Police Intensifies Smog Control Efforts with Ongoing Operations for Environmental Protection

Over 158,000 Vehicles were fined for challaned for emitting excessive smoke on the roads in Punjab’s Anti-Smog Operations
Under the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, operations are underway across the province to prevent smog and protect the environment. So far, 863 individuals have been arrested, and 1123 cases have been registered in the anti-smog crackdown. In Lahore alone, 71 individuals have been arrested, and 182 cases have been filed. in the anti-smog operations. A total of 158,579 vehicles were challaned and fined more than 25 crore 55 lakh 51 thousand rupees for emitting excessive smoke on the roads. The route permits of 1507 vehicles were suspended while FIRs were also registered against 172 smoke emitting vehicles.
IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has instructed the acceleration of anti-smog efforts on highways, industrial zones, and other areas. He emphasized that the traffic police and Punjab Highway Patrol must intensify actions against vehicles contributing to smog on highways. He also directed the use of Safe City cameras to monitor and take swift action against vehicles causing pollution. Dr. Usman Anwar stressed the need for immediate action against activities like burning crops in fields, factories, and vehicles which contribute to smog. He further instructed field officers to ensure strict enforcement against the burning of crop residues, brick kiln emissions, and garbage fires to protect the environment.
