Under the directive of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police is continuing its crackdown against electricity thieves across all districts of the province, including Lahore. In this ongoing effort, police teams have arrested 54,602 individuals involved in electricity theft this year, with 93,564 cases registered against them. Challans for 59,534 cases have been completed and submitted, while approximately 8,000 electricity thieves have been convicted. Regarding the operations in the provincial capital Lahore, spokesperson for the Punjab Police said that 29,711 electricity thieves have been arrested, with 29,373 cases registered against them. Challans for 8,097 cases have been submitted in Lahore.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed that actions against electricity theft cases continue without discrimination, emphasizing that operations against individuals causing losses to the national treasury should be carried out under a zero-tolerance policy. IG Punjab instructed that no leniency should be shown to absconders involved in electricity theft, and efforts to improve the recovery rate should be intensified. He further directed that cases should be registered promptly in collaboration with relevant electricity companies and that a strict course of action should be adopted. Dr. Usman Anwar also said that police teams will continue to provide strong support to electricity companies in the crackdown against electricity theft, and the cooperation to protect national resources will be further expanded.
