In line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision for a Drug-Free Punjab, Punjab Police is working day and night to eradicate the menace of drugs from its roots. Under the supervision of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, anti narcotics operations across the province have been intensified. Punjab Police Spokesperson said that this year, 84,195 raids have been conducted on drug dens across the province, resulting in the arrest of 46,810 accused involved in the drug trade and the registration of 46,407 cases. Police team seized 33,382 kilograms of charas, 791 kilograms of heroin, 1,550 kilograms of opium, 365 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), and over 768,000 liters of liquor from the accused possession. Additionally, 1,245 individuals suffering from drug addiction were admitted to rehabilitation centers for treatment. Spokesperson Punjab Police also mentioned that in the provincial capital, 7,684 raids were conducted on drug dens this year, resulting in the arrest of 7,925 suspects and the registration of 7,684 cases. Police recovered 5,772 kilograms of charas, 245 kilograms of heroin, 296 kilograms of opium, 137 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), and 53,322 liters of liquor from the suspects.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered further acceleration in special operations against drug dealers and smugglers. IG Punjab emphasized the need for more intelligence-based operations against suspects involved in the drug trade. He directed that targeted operations should be intensified against the buying and selling of modern drugs, online supply, smuggling, and consumption. Daily search and combing operations must be conducted around educational institutions and hostels, and all accused involved in the drug supply chain should be brought to justice and given severe punishments.
