Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's directions: Punjab Police intensified crackdown against electricity thieves

Following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police's crackdown on electricity thieves across the province is underway without interruption. Punjab Police have intensified the operations against lawbreakers causing financial loss to the national treasury. Spokesperson for Punjab Police said that in the past year, 104,808 accused involved in electricity theft have been arrested, with a total of 139,484 cases registered against electricity thieves. Of these, 96,358 cases have been processed and challan have been submitted, and 20,205 electricity thieves have been sent to jail. In the provincial capital, Lahore, 44,696 electricity thieves have been arrested, and 45,349 cases have been registered. In Lahore, 23,110 cases have been processed, and challan submitted, and 12,131 accused have been sent to jail.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar instructed that operations against electricity theft should continue without discrimination. He emphasized a zero tolerance policy against individuals causing loss to the national treasury. IG Punjab directed RPOs and DPOs to ensure the arrest of as many proclaimed offenders as possible and to improve the recovery rate also. Dr. Usman Anwar instructed that cases be registered without delay in coordination with the relevant electricity companies, and a strict protocol be adopted. He said that police teams are providing full support to electricity companies in the crackdown against electricity theft and that no leniency will be shown to lawbreakers.
