Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Directive: Punjab Police accelerated crackdown against Electricity Thieves
This year, 47,167 accused involved in electricity theft have been arrested across the province, with 82,049 cases registered, Punjab Police spokesperson.
Following the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Police's crackdown on individuals accused of electricity theft has been intensified across the province. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has instructed that actions against electricity theft cases be conducted without discrimination. He emphasized the need for timely registration of cases and a strict action plan in collaboration with the relevant companies. Dr. Usman Anwar also directed efforts to apprehend as many proclaimed offenders as possible, improve recovery rates, and maintain zero tolerance against those causing losses to the national treasury.
The Punjab Police spokesperson reported that this year, 47,167 individuals have been arrested for electricity theft across the province, with 82,049 cases registered. Of these, 52,509 cases have been processed, and 5,823 electricity thieves have been convicted. In the provincial capital, Lahore, 24,491 electricity thieves have been arrested, 25,616 cases registered, and 7,204 cases processed. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed that reports on actions against those harming the national treasury through electricity theft be regularly sent to the Central Police Office.
