Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Directive: Punjab Police intensified the crackdown against Electricity Thieves

Under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police's strict crackdown against electricity thieves is ongoing, with police teams actively prioritizing actions against those involved in electricity theft. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, 99,589 accused were arrested for electricity theft across the province, including Lahore, in the past year. A total of 132,745 cases were registered against the culprits, with challans submitted for 91,880 cases. Additionally, 19,764 accused were sent to jail. Regarding operations in the provincial capital, the spokesperson said that, during this period, 42,223 electricity thieves were arrested in Lahore, with 42,951 cases registered. Challans were submitted for 21,266 cases, and 12,108 accused were sent to jail.
IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, directed that actions in electricity theft cases and the rate of submitting challans be further improved without any discrimination. He emphasized the need to arrest as many proclaimed offenders in these cases as possible and to enhance recovery rates. Dr. Usman Anwar also instructed that cases of electricity theft be registered without delay and that strict measures be adopted in collaboration with the relevant companies. He further stressed that zero-tolerance actions against those causing losses to the national treasury should continue. Dr. Usman Anwar said that police teams are providing full support to electricity companies in the crackdown against electricity theft.
