In compliance with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision for a Drug-Free Punjab, the Punjab Police are actively taking action against the scourge of drugs across the province. Under the supervision of IG Punjab, anti-narcotics intelligence-based targeted operations have intensified across the province, including Lahore. In a single day, 305 raids were conducted on drug dealers' hideouts across the province, including Lahore. Punjab Police Spokesperson briefed that 115 accused in this heinous trade were arrested, and 115 cases were registered. 56 kilograms of charas, 02 kilograms of heroin, and 1,144 liters of alcohol were recovered from the suspects.
Punjab Police spokesperson further said that since February 2024, 18,163 raids have been conducted on drug dealers' hideouts across the province. 22,928 accused involved in the drug trade have been arrested, and 22,360 cases have been registered. The suspects were found in possession of 14,577 kilograms of charas, 288 kilograms of heroin, 423 kilograms of opium, 109 kilograms of ice, and over 1.761 million liters of alcohol. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed that further intensification of special operations against drug dealers and smugglers, emphasizing the need to accelerate targeted operations against the purchase, online supply, and use of modern drugs. He also directed daily search and combing operations around educational institutions and hostels, particularly focusing on bringing criminals involved in inter-provincial and inter-district smuggling to justice and ensuring they face appropriate strict punishments.
