SAHIWAL: Ghala Mandi police arrested a drug smuggler after an encounter near the Arifwala bypass on Monday. The smuggler, identified as Shabbaz Nabi, was injured during an exchange of fire and was captured along with his two brothers, Hasan Ali and Zain. The injured Shahbaz was shifted to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital. Reports indicate that on Aug 24, Sub-Inspector Zafar Iqbal along with his team raided a drug den near the Ghala Mandi locality. Upon seeing the police, the drug traffickers fled and opened fire leaving Sub-Inspector Zafar Iqbal injured. Shahbaz fled, while the injured official was taken to the hospital. A case was registered against Shahbaz, his two brothers, and three others under various sections on the complaint of SI Nasir Ali of Ghala Mandi Police. On Monday, acting on a tip-off, the police raided a location near Chowk bypass, where three people were allegedly selling drugs. During the raid, the traffickers again opened fire, resulting in Shahbaz Nabi being injured. He was arrested and shifted to the Teaching Hospital, and another case was registered against him on the complaint of ASI Zawar.
