Following the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision of a Drug-Free Punjab, Punjab Police's strict crackdown continues across the province. Under the directives of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, intelligence-based targeted operations have been intensified to root out the drug menace across the province, including Lahore.
Punjab Police Spokesperson shared that in one day, 300 raids were conducted across the province targeting drug dealers' hideouts.128 individuals involved in the nefarious trade were arrested, and 125 cases were registered. A large quantity of drugs was seized from the suspects, including 46 kilograms of charas, 4 kilograms of heroin, 16 kilograms of opium, 1 kilogram of ice, and 2079 liters of liquor. Since the special campaign began on February 26, more than 40,000 raids have been conducted on drug dealers' hideouts across Punjab. 19,316 suspects involved in the drug trade have been arrested, and 18,794 cases have been registered. Drugs seized during this period include 11,488 kilograms of charas, 63 kilograms of ice, 213 kilograms of heroin, 294 kilograms of opium, and over 1,717,000 liters of liquor.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed the RPOs and DPOs to further intensify intelligence-based operations against drug dealers and smugglers. Operations against elements involved in online drug sales and hotspot areas should be accelerated. Dr. Usman Anwar directed to accelerate the search and combing operations around educational institutions and their surroundings should be conducted regularly. He instructed to focus on drug awareness campaign in collaboration with parents, teachers, religious scholars, and civil society.
