As part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's vision for a drug-free Punjab, Punjab Police's accelerated the crackdown against the drug dealers. Under the leadership of IG Punjab, targeted operations against drug dealers have been carried out across the province, including Lahore. On a single day, 244 raids were conducted on drug dealers' hideouts throughout the province, resulting in the arrest of 104 accused, 104 cases were registered, and 71 kilograms of charas and 970 liters of alcohol were seized from the suspects.
Punjab Police spokesperson further said that since launch of the special campaign on February 26 of this year, police teams have conducted 39,249 raids on drug dealers' hideouts across the Punjab. During this campaign, 18,800 suspects involved in drug trafficking have been arrested, and 18,286 cases have been registered. From these suspects, 11,173 kilograms of charas, 58.5 kilograms of ice, 204 kilograms of heroin, 278 kilograms of opium, and over 1.71 million liters of alcohol have been seized.
IG Punjab has instructed RPOs and DPOs to further accelerate intelligence based operations against drug dealers and smugglers. He emphasized the need for increased action to curb online drug transactions and directed that search and combing operations in and around educational institutions should be conducted regularly.
