OKARA: The district police claimed to have solved two separate blind murder cases, arresting the suspects and registering first information reports (FIRs) against them at the police stations concerned. In the first case, an elderly man, Niaz Ahmad, who lived alone, was found murdered in his house at Rohaila Tejeka village on the night of July 12. The unidentified killer(s) had smashed the victim’s head with a brick. Basirpur police, on the report of a relative of the victim, had registered a case against unidentified killer(s) under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). As per the police, a special team formed to solve the blind murder case, came to know during investigation that Niaz had exchanged words with one Nazar Farid of the same village a couple of days back, who allegedly killed him while the victim was asleep in his house. The police registered a case against the suspect. In the other case, a woman, Rehana, wife of Shabbir, had gone missing during the Eidul Azha holidays atPukhta Dola village. Her family reported the matter to the police.
According to police, Sub Inspector (SI) Muhammad Aslam, a resident of the same village, posted at Sundar police station in Lahore, went to Pukhta Doal on a leave. The SI claimed that while taking tea at a stall at his native village, he overheard a conversation among some men who allegedly confessed that they had murdered Rehana over ‘honour’ as she had eloped with one Imran Sheikh. The SI informed the area police about the incident, which immediately arrested the suspects, identified as Sarfraz and Ashraf of the same village, who turned out to be brothers-in-law of the murdered woman. The police claimed that the suspects, during interrogation, confessed to have strangled Rehana, with the help of their accomplices, Nasreen Bibi and Khalid, and buried the body in a graveyard at Chak Bedi in Pakpattan district. Dipalpur city police, on the report of SI Aslam, registered a case against the suspects under sections 302 and 34 of the PPC.
