09 Muharram Al-Haram: Punjab Police on high alert throughout the province, ensuring fool-proof security arrangements for processions and majalis.

More than 65,000 officers and personnel performed the security duties of 1686 processions and 3853 majalis, IG Punjab.

 Under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, on 09th Moharram ul Haram ,  Punjab Police ensured foolproof security arrangements across the province, including Lahore. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that on the 9th of Muharram, 1686 processions and 3853 majalis were held across the province, including 194 category A processions and 345 majalis. Over 65,000 officers and personnel performed duties across the province, including Lahore, during the 9th of Muharram. Police teams remained on high alert, providing a peaceful environment for the citizens. Dr. Usman Anwar mentioned that in the provincial capital, 79 processions and 378 majalis were held on the 9th of Muharram, including 24 category A processions and 46 majalis. In Lahore, over 10,000 officers and personnel performed security duties on the 9th of Muharram. In Sheikhupura region, 98 processions and 125 majalis were held, In Gujranwala region, 334 processions and 687 majalis were held, In Rawalpindi region, 171 processions and 426 majalis were held, In Sargodha region, 214 processions and 481 majalis were held today, In Faisalabad region, 260 processions and 465 majalis were held, In Multan region, 155 processions and 351 majalis were held today, In Sahiwal region, 77 processions and 191 majalis were held today, In DG Khan region, 230 processions and 590 majalis were held today, In Bahawalpur region, 84 processions and 158 majalis were held today.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that the enforcement of Section 144, following the directions of the Government of Punjab, is being strictly ensured, RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs are personally supervising all security arrangements. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed that close watch be kept on elements hostile to the country and peace, and to promote inter-sect harmony, security arrangements are being continuously monitored through control rooms established in Safe Cities Authority, Central Police Office, and all districts. Dr. Usman Anwar instructed that security arrangements be ensured with the help of modern equipment, including CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, and metal detectors, all resources will be utilized for the security of the main processions and majalis on the Day of Ashura. IG Punjab mentioned that snipers have been deployed on rooftops along the routes of the mourning processions, and plain-clothes commandos have been assigned to the processions, with the cooperation of community leaders, administration, and security departments, the peaceful conduct of the main processions on the Day of Ashura will also be ensured. IG Punjab said that provincial ministers, religious scholars, armed forces, Rangers, and security departments are providing full cooperation, there is a ban on double riding, and mobile service will be partially restricted at specific locations and times as needed.
