LAHORE: The Multan police claimed on Thursday to have arrested three suspects, including a woman, in connection with the brutal murder and burning of a man in the Nang Shah area. The police recovered charred remains of an unidentified man in Nang Shah on May 27 and registered a murder case against unidentified suspects. The victim was later identified as Saifal Mashooq Ali, a car mechanic, who had been missing since May 20. Acting on suspicion, police detained one of Ali’s friends, Ali Raza, who confessed to the crime. Raza admitted to killing Ali, burning his body, and disposing of the remains in the backyard of Ali’s workshop. Further investigation led the police to recover video footage from Raza’s mobile phone. The footage implicated two other suspects, Umaira Masih and Sami Masih, in the murder and subsequent burning of the body. Police conducted raids and arrested both suspects, who also confessed to their involvement in the crime. Additional video evidence of the killing was recovered from their phones. The three suspects were presented before the court, which remanded them to jail. Multan City Police Officer (CTO) Sadiq Ali Dogar commended the police team for solving what he described a “blind murder.” According to Dogar, the motive for the killing was Ali’s relationship with Umaira Masih, who was also having a relationship with another suspect, Sami Masih. He said that the police had gathered substantial evidence against the suspects and had sent the video footage to a forensic science laboratory for verification. The police are currently awaiting the forensic report.
