On the directives of Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, police teams ensured full-proof security arrangements across Lahore and the entire province on the second day of Muharram. Inspector General Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar said that on the second day of Muharram-ul-Haram, 90 mourning processions and 3,549 religious majalis were held across the province. More than 26,000 police officers and personnel ensured security arrangements for these gatherings and processions. In the provincial capital, 2,500 officers and personnel were assigned to Muharram security duties, ensuring security for 08 processions and 386 majalis in Lahore. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that security is on high alert throughout the province during the month of Muharram, Women officials have been deployed for the security of women mourners. IG Punjab said that the implementation of Section 144 is being ensured on the instructions of the Punjab government. Aerial firing, display of weapons, promotion of hateful material, incitement, etc. are strictly prohibited. IG Punjab further said that processions and gatherings are not allowed at any place other than the scheduled routes and places. With the help of cameras of Safe Cities Authority and district administration, the security arrangements of Majalis and processions is being monitored very closely throughout the province.
IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar said that CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, Peru and other field formations are deployed on Muharram security. Traffic flow is being ensured through alternative routes for the peaceful holding of processions across the province. IG Punjab said that strict implementation of Loudspeaker Act is being ensured, indiscriminate actions are being taken against those guilty of promoting hateful content on social media. Dr. Usman Anwar said that the Muharram control rooms established in all districts are connected with the central control room of the Central Police Office and the security arrangements are continuously monitored in every district.
