Muharram ul Haram: Punjab Police completed the security arrangements for religious processions and majalis

Punjab Police has completed the fool proof security arrangements for all the religious processions and majalis across the province before the start of holy month. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, said that more than 10,700 processions and over 38,000 majalis will take place during Ashura across the province, including Lahore. Over 215,000 officers and personnel will be on duty for security, with over 28,000 officers and personnel specifically deployed in the provincial capital. IG Punjab also mentioned that Punjab Police will be assisted by Rangers and the Pakistan Army, along with other govt. security institutions to maintain peace and law & order. Additionally, over 66,000 community volunteers will assist in the security of majalis, and over 45,000 volunteers will help in security of the religious processions.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that a more better strategy has been developed for the security arrangements of Muharram this year. Various field formations, including CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, and PERU, will perform their duties as part of the security plan. Across the province, 633 points have been identified as flashpoints, with 283 in Lahore alone. In Lahore, 54 locations are deemed extremely sensitive, and 229 are sensitive, with additional personnel deployed accordingly. Province-wide, 586 locations are classified as sensitive, and 146 as extremely sensitive. Punjab Police will ensure the strict implementation of Section 144 during Ashura, whereas bans on aerial firing, weapon displays, hate speech, and incitement will be strictly ensured. Punjab government has also imposed a ban on double riding from the 7th to the 10th of Muharram. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that coordination with all religious scholars, peace committees, and organizers of processions & majalis is complete. No processions or gatherings will be allowed outside the designated routes and locations. Strict adherence to the Loudspeaker Act will be enforced, and the movement of individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule will be closely monitored due to potential threats of incitement. IG Punjab directed officers to ensure the strict action against culprits involved in promoting hate speech or material on social media platforms. RPOs, CPOs, DPOs, and traffic officers will personally oversee the security arrangements for Muharram. Dr. Usman Anwar also mentioned that control rooms have been established in all districts, those will remain in constant contact with the central control room at the Central Police Office, ensuring real-time monitoring of security for all processions and majalis in each district.
