On the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the crackdown of the Punjab Police in the Drug Free Punjab campaign continues without interruption. On the directions of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, police have intensified operations against drug dealers and smugglers across the province, including Lahore. In a single day, over 200 raids were conducted on drug dens. As a result, 99 accused involved in illicit activities were arrested and 99 cases were registered against them. Police seized 54 kilograms of charas, 1 kilogram of heroin, and 955 liters of liquor from the possession of the culprits.
Spokesman of Punjab Police further said that since February 26, more than 33,000 raids have been conducted province-wide during Anti-Narcotics Operations. As a result, 15,945 individuals involved in drug trafficking have been arrested, and 15,558 cases have been registered. More than 9300 kg of charas, 161 kg of heroin, 269 kg of opium, 45 kg of ice and more than 1.6 million liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed RPOs and DPOs to personally supervise anti-narcotics operations, ensuring swift action against anti-social elements involved in hotspots and online drug trafficking. IG Punjab emphasized that in particular, the accused involved in inter-provincial trafficking should be brought under the grip of the law with the cooperation of other institutions and be given real punishment.
