35 booked for freeing rival from police

NAROWAL: Sialkot Rungpur police on Tuesday registered a case against 35 people who attacked a police team and got their rival freed from custody at civil hospital. Complainant (Rungpur police trainee Sub-Inspector) Afzal Hussain said SI Sikandar Ali along with other personnel had brought injured suspect Abid Hussain, a resident of Silrian Tehsil Pasrur, to Sialkot civil hospital for medical treatment. He said the doctors had referred the injured to Lahore after medical aid. Afzal Hussain said according to the CCTV footage, Sabz Pir police team was shifting Abid [accused of firing] to the ambulance when 30 to 35 of his opponents attacked the police and took him away. The assailants tortured Abid with punches and bricks.

Owing to severe violence, Abid became unconscious. Afzal said police team managed to rescue Abid from his rivals. Abid has been shifted to Lahore Jinnah Hospital due to his serious condition. Police have registered a case against 35 people, including Muhammad Qayyum, Allah Dutta, Siddique, Adnan, Akmal and Tanveer on various charges, including attempted murder. Police spokesman Nauman Ahmed said DPO Mohammad Hasan Iqbal took notice of the incident and seven of the assailants were arrested.
