11 booked for torture of ‘thief’

KASUR: City Pattoki police on Tuesday registered a criminal case against 11 suspects, including three nominated, for tying a suspected thief to a pole, subjecting him to alleged torture, making a video of the incident and uploading it on social media near Talab Railway Road. Police have arrested four of the suspects and a special team constituted by DPO Tariq Aziz was raiding for the arrest of the others. The case was lodged under sections including 342 (wrongful confinement), 355 (use of criminal force to pollute the honour and respect of other person) and 293 (sale of obscene objects to young persons) on the complaint of ASI Tufail Ahmed.

According to the first information report, suspects Muhammad Azam, Muhammad Shahbaz, Shakirullah and eight unidentified men caught Kashif Ali of Baloki village stealing a solar panel from the roof of a shop. The suspects allegedly tied the thief with an electricity pole and tortured him. While the mob was beating and humiliating the suspected thief, they also made a video of the incident and uploaded it on social media. When informed local police rushed to the spot and got the suspected thief released. DPO Tariq Aziz formed a team to probe into the matter. He said no body would be allowed to take law into his hands.
