RAWALPINDI: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has inaugurated the Safe City Project for the garrison city. Besides, he also visited the Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control, and Communication Centre (PPIC3) in Rawalpindi, where he inspected the city’s security arrangements monitored through cameras on the digital wall. During the briefing, the chief minister was apprised that 1886 cameras have been installed at 306 locations across Rawalpindi under the Safe City Project. Mr Naqvi congratulated the inspector general of police (IGP) and his team for swiftly operationalising the project and commended the relentless efforts made day and night, turning a seemingly impossible project into reality. He further expressed gratitude for the initiation of the Safe City Project in Rawalpindi, emphasising its expansion from Lahore to encompass the entire Punjab. Moreover, plans are underway to launch similar projects in 18 other cities. Highlighting a significant saving of Rs84 billion in these endeavours, Mohsin Naqvi underscored the government’s commitment to utilising its own resources for these projects.
He also lauded the efforts of IGP Dr. Usman Anwar, stating that his tenure marked a transformative period for the police department. Promising the release of funds for the construction of the CPO Rawalpindi office, Mohsin Naqvi reiterated the government’s dedication to improving facilities in Rawalpindi, citing ongoing projects such as the construction of the Ring Road, Dadocha Dam, Signal Free Corridor from Katcheri Chowk to Pirwadhai Mor, and other roadworks. He praised the Rawalpindi police for their effective crime control measures and commended both the police and administration for their tireless efforts in the city’s development. Provincial Caretaker Minister Dr Jamal Nasir, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha, Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) officials, deputy commissioner Rawalpindi, and other relevant officials were present at the event.
