BAHAWALPUR: Ahmedpur East Saddar police claimed on Saturday to have busted a gang impersonating the employees of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). According to police spokesman Umar Saleem, complainant Muhammad Tahir of village Abbas Arbie told the police that over 10 suspects, including women, visited the village the other day and collected thousands of rupees and animals from over 20 women for BISP registration for the payment of Rs14,000 cash and distribution of goats and allotment of constructed houses. The complainant said his wife Saima Bibi gave them his calf for BISP registration for receipt of Rs14,000 cash, goats and allotment of house. The spokesman said police registered a case against suspects Malik Shahid Bashir, Malik Haq Nawaz, Riffat Bibi and others under sections 420, 419 and 406 of Pakistan Penal Code and arrested three of them. Police are conducting raids for arrest of the remaining suspects.
