Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that the Organized Crime Unit is the backbone of the Punjab Police in eliminating heinous crimes from the provincial capital, scope of organized crime unit will be extended to all the districts of the province. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that the contribution of the organized crime unit in crime control from the provincial capital is more than 70 percent. IG Punjab said that priority measures will continue to provide modern technology, human resources and resources to the Organized Crime Unit. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting related to the professional affairs of the Organized Crime Unit at the Central Police Office. DIG Organized Crime Unit Captain Retired Liaqat Ali Malik briefed the meeting that organized crime unit has arrested 34,619 accused while submitting challans in 24,524 cases this year, 913 culprits of A category including murder, robbery and 662 accused of 201 gangs were arrested.More than 82 million rupees looted in various incidents of crimes were recovered from the criminals and returned to the citizens. Captain retired Liaqat Ali Malik further said that 2126 accused were arrested in 1972 drug cases. Organized crime unit also submitted challans of 8215 cases including more than 07 thousand cases of murder, robbery and serious crimes. DIG Organized Crime further said that no high profile cases including target killing, kidnapping for ransom are pending in Lahore city. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar appreciated the overall performance of the Organized Crime Unit this year.IG Punjab directed DIG Capt. Retd Liaqat Ali Malik to continue regular intelligence based operations to eradicate serious crimes. Additional IG Special Branch Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional IG Welfare Riaz Nazir Gara, Additional IG Punjab Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Additional IG CTD Waseem Ahmad Khan, Additional IG Traffic Mirza Faran Baig, all senior officers attended the meeting including, MD Safe City Authority Ahsan Younas, other officers participated in the meeting through video link.
