LAHORE: The Punjab police claimed on Saturday to have issued 1.7 million driving licences of various categories to citizens in the last two weeks under the digital and manual systems. A police department spokesperson said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar had instructed the police officials to expedite the process of issuing driving licences to the public and to facilitate them through online and offline modes. He said the citizens could now apply for a learner licence online through their mobile phones and pay a nominal fee of Rs 60. He said the online system had made it easier and convenient for the citizens to obtain their learner licences without any hassle. He said the citizens could also visit any of the Police Khidmat/ facilitation centres, police stations, patrolling police offices, traffic and training centres in the province to get their learners licences.
He said the police department had also issued regular, renewal and international licences to the citizens who had passed the driving test and fulfilled the required criteria. He said that on Saturday alone, more than 112,000 licences were issued across the province, including Lahore. He urged the citizens to follow the traffic rules and regulations and drive responsibly. Under a digital driving licence system, citizens can easily get their electronic licences after registering their national identity card and date of birth on the website of the Punjab Traffic Police (DLIMS). The citizens can download their electronic licence in PDF form and save it in their mobile phones. They can also use it while travelling. The QR code facility is available in the e-driving license, which allows traffic police to verify it.
