GUJRAT: The Gujranwala police claimed on Friday to have traced and arrested the suspects involved in the kidnap and murder of a 13-year-old boy whose body was also torched, saying a paternal aunt and her male friend planned and executed the crime. A spokesman for Gujranwala police says the Wando police had received a complaint from a woman, Sonia Imran, on Nov 28 the last that her son Salman (13) had gone missing after he went to purchase something from a shop near his house. She also alleged that her son was spotted by some locals with his aunt Ayesha Bibi (wife of boy’s paternal uncle Umer) and two unidentified men. The police had lodged a case and started investigation. He said City Police Officer (CPO) Ayaz Saleem had tasked the Gujranwala Sadar circle SP Shahid Nawaz Warraich and Wando Station House Officer (SHO) Sub Inspector Imtiaz with arrest of the culprits. The police, he said, detained the suspects and during interrogation Sonia revealed that the Salman had seen her with her male friend in objectionable condition and she feared the boy might expose her extra-marital affair in the family. She told police that she hatched a plan to eliminate the boy with the help of her friend and his accomplices. She said that her friend first kidnapped the boy, killed him and torched his body. Similarly, Dinga Police claimed to have solved the murder case of caretaker of a shrine in Panjan Sher Shahana village and traced and arrested the suspects involved in the crime. Police say an thief who would often steal cash from the donation box of the shrine turned out to be the killer who was spotted by the caretaker while stealing the money.
A spokesman for Gujrat police says that Syed Muhammad Shah the caretaker of Baba Sher Shah shrine had been stabbed to death on September 18 the last and the case was lodged against unidentified suspect(s) on the report of Umar Farooq, the son of the deceased. He said the Kharian circle DSP Malik Arfan Safdar and Dinga Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Mujahid Abbas had been tasked with the case. The Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also collected evidence from the crime scene. He said that police had traced and arrested the suspect, Yasir Iqbal, who confessed to have killed the shrine caretaker, saying Shah had caught him red-handed while stealing the money from the cash box. To conceal his theft, Yasir knifed the shrine caretaker to death. Police say they also recovered the knife used in the crime.
