Delegation of UN Women's Mission called on IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar at Central Police Office
UN Women's Representative in Pakistan Ramzani Sharmila Rasool, Partnership and Communication Specialist Nabila Malik were included in the delegation.
In the meeting, women empowerment, protection,of women, character development, laws and policy making were discussed as per the mandate of the UN mission.
Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that Punjab Police is providing safe working environment, modern facilities, and equal opportunities for career growth to women serving in Punjab Police. IG Punjab said that the Punjab Police is ensuring protection of transgenders, all the women of society including working ladies, students and women in homes ( in case of violence, sexual abuse and harassment etc.) and vulnerable sections of the society through Police Tahaffuz marakaz. Dr. Usman Anwar said that 39 Transgender Victim Support Officers are posted in Tahaffuz marakaz acrossthe province, who have provided help and support to nearly 20 thousand transgender, women, and other vulnerable citizens. IG Punjab said that various measures, including women safety App, help desks etc has been established to help the women facing harassment at home, public and working places. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that 03 thousand young police lady officers have been provided modern victim support training through UN institutions. Women Safety App, 1787 Complaint Center and Emergency Helpline 15 are ensuring immediate help to women in distress throughout the province. He expressed these views during a meeting with the delegation of United Nations Women's Mission at the Central Police Office, the delegation included UN Women's representative in Pakistan Ramzani Sharmila Rasool, Partnership and Communication Specialist Nabila Malik.
During the meeting, women empowerment, women's protection, character development, laws and policy making were discussed according to the mandate of the UN Mission, UN Women Country Representative Ramzani Sharmila Rasool said that there is a significant increase in the representation of women in the Punjab Police, and the provision of modern facilities to women officwrs and officials are welcoming. Ramzani Sharmila Rasool said that Pakistani women are very talented, it is very important to create opportunities for their economic and social development and decision-making. Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzada Sultan speaking in the meeting said that more than 6500 young students have been provided internships under Friends of Police and Volunteers Outreach Program. MD Punjab Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younis briefed the delegation about the modern applications of Punjab Police through the dashboard of the Central Police Office. At the end of the meeting, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar presented Punjab Police souvenir to UN Women representative Ramzani Sharmila Rasool. Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzada Sultan, MD Punjab Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younis, AIG Admin Amara Athar, SP Shazia, ASP Shahrabano Naqvi and senior officers were present on the spot.
