LAHORE: Investigation police claimed to have arrested one of the main suspects involved in killing his five relatives and injuring a child over a property dispute in Chuhng three days ago. Earlier the police had said that a child had also been killed in the incident. However, it was revealed later that he was injured in the firing, but survived. Police say Haji Shahzad Awan, his brothers Hafiz Ghulam Murtaza, Ghulam Mustafa, Khadim Hussain, their employee Fahad and five-year-old Abubakar were at their farmhouse in Khanpur village when their relatives Mubashir Tufail and Ghulam Sabir, along with their accomplices barged in. The suspects pulled out Kalashnikov guns and opened fire at them. As a result, all the five men suffered critical injuries and died on the spot, while the child was injured. The attackers fled the scene in a car, resorting to aerial firing.
Chunhg police registered a case on terrorism and murder charges on the complaint of Shahzad Awan’s widow Nabeela Bibi, who said two other members of the family, Muhammad Azeem and Kaleem Ali, who were also present there, saved their lives by hiding in a room. The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Sadique Kamyana has formed four teams to investigate the case and nab the culprits. Lahore’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Investigation, Ms Anoosh Masood, told Dawn that the teams had arrested one of the suspects, Sabir, from Dera Ghazi Khan and were conducting raids to arrest others. She said the police teams were interrogating Sabir and his facilitators to know the whereabouts of the other suspects, who would also be arrested.
