LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has released a video statement, providing updated figures on operation in the katcha area of south Punjab, saying more than 60,000 acres have been cleared from criminals. Moreover, 12 dacoits were killed, 51 arrested, and 26 others have surrendered to the Punjab police during the ongoing operation. The police rescued 50 hostages from the criminals. However, the fight against the criminals has not been without its challenges as a police jawan embraced martyrdom, and seven others were seriously injured during encounters with bandits. Up to 40 checkpoints and 14 base camps have been established in the reclaimed regions. Six police schools and dispensaries have been set up to provide education and healthcare facilities to the local people of katcha.
Moreover, the Punjab government has committed to building roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure in the katcha area. He emphasised the prevention of honey trap incidents, saying that the timely actions by the police team frustrated 204 attempts of honey trap. He urged citizens and businessmen to contact the Rahim Yar Khan police special number 92-30337068 to report any suspicious activity related to honey trap. He also urged the public to immediately inform the police about any strange calls offering suspicious business deals, such as cheap cars, tractors, or land. To ensure the safety and authenticity of business transactions, police officials will meet sellers in their offices to facilitate citizens after thoroughly checking their records and providing police clearance.
