Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman visited Rawalpindi along with IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar to check Muharram security arrangements.
The officers visited various Imambargahs including Liaquat Bagh, Colonel Maqbool Imambargah and the procession route and reviewed the security arrangements.

Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman along with IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar visited Rawalpindi for Muharram security arrangements. IG Punjab Police reviewed the security arrangements of 09th Muharram processions and Majalis. RPO Rawalpindi Syed Khurram Ali also accompanied the IGP. CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Mahmood Hamdani briefed IG Punjab about security arrangements. Speaking to the media representatives, IG Punjab said that security is being provided to all the processions and gatherings during Muharram.
Intelligence-based operations are being conducted in collaboration with the Special Branch and other security agencies. More than 100,000 police personnel are deployed on Muharram security duty. Religious scholars, procession organizers are in full contact with all the institutions. Control rooms have been established in all the districts with the help of CCTV cameras. All activities are being continuously monitored.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that the security of processions and gatherings across the province on Ashura Day has been tightened and additional personnel have been deployed. In addition, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that on 9th of Muharram, 1678 processions and 3909 Majalis were held across the province, including Lahore, which included 198 processions and 344 majalis of A category, 44 processions, 380 majalis in the provincial capital.
IG Punjab said that RPOs, DPOs are monitoring all security arrangements themselves. The security arrangements are being monitored moment by moment from the control rooms. The security arrangements are being ensured with CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors and other devices.
IG Punjab further said that all the resources will be utilized for the security of processions and Majalis. Plainclothes commandos and snipers along with processions will be deployed for rooftop duty on the roofs of buildings on the routes.
