Katcha area dacoits kidnap shopkeeper, taxi driver

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A shopkeeper and a taxi driver were allegedly kidnapped by a dacoits gang operating in Katcha area on Monday night near Rahimabad, Sadiqabad tehsil, some 55kms from here.The incident brought embarrassment for the local police as just four days ago, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and IGP Usman Anwer had paid a visit to the area and were told that the situation was “under control”.As per police sources, an owner of a bangle shop, Ashok Kumar, was returning home from Sadiqabad in a rented car driven by Altaf Hussain Solangi, around 11pm. Near Rahimabad town in the Bhong police limits, the car was stopped by dacoits who kidnapped both the men.

In protest against the kidnapping, the members of the Hindu local community and Solangi clan staged a protest demo on Tuesday. They demanded the chief minister and the IGP should take steps for the safe recovery of the kidnapped men.A protester told the media that after hearing about the kidnapping, the father of Ashok Kumar suffered a heart attack and was shifted to the Indus Hospital, Bhong, in a critical condition.The caretaker CM and IGP, during their visit to the Katcha area on June 23, had lauded the police for conducting a successful operation against the dacoits and awarded prizes to the policemen participating in it to boost their morale.According to RYK police spokesperson, after the kidnapping of two men in Bhong area, a police contingent led by DPO Rizwan Umar visited Bhong and assured the families of the safe recovery of their loved ones.
