New curriculum for police officers` training soon
ISLAMABAD, Jan 16: The board of governors (BoG) of National Police Academy, Monday decided to formulate a new curriculum for police officers to meet the modern day challenges including the module of interviewing women, children and victims of violence.
The meeting noted that curriculum for senior police officers needed to be amended and topics like counterterrorism and other growing crimes should be included in the courses.
The board meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Interior Senator Rehman Malik during which the Job Task Analysis (JTA) of District Police Officer and District Superintendent of Police was approved.
However, the meeting recommended that a revised curriculum for the JTA should be formulated. The board members raised concerns over the behaviour of police towards ordinary citizens especially the victims of violence including women and children.
It was stressed that the new curriculum should include subjects concerning manners to be adopted by police personnel and officers.
Federal Minister for Interior, who is also the Chairman of the BoG stressed uponthe need to launch courses on cyber crimes, anti-terrorism and money laundering.
`Module on interviewing women and children and victims of violence should be included in the curriculum`, he said.
The board recommended that in order to make this module more effective, it should be translated into Urdu.
It appreciated the efforts of the academy in formulating National Training Policy 2012 and approved it in principle.The proposed re-organisation of the police academy into different specialised sub-units was also approved that would introduce modern concepts of policing in the officers` training and would enable them have adequate training for facing new challenges.
The board was informed by the NPA Commandant about the training programmes for senior police officers.
The board also directed the National Police Bureau to allocate 25 per cent of foreign courses to the officers of the academy.
The board was assured by the federal minister that implementation of the pay package of NPA employees as per approved summary of the prime minister would be made at the earliest.
