Cases of serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom, molestation and rape will be registered within eight hours of receipt of the application.  Dr. Usman Anwar
The deadline for filing a case in cases of theft, dacoity,  robbery, trespassing, snatching and motorcycle and vehicle theft is 24 hours.  IG Punjab

Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has issued a special message for the convenience and awareness of citizens in registering cases.  In a message released on social media, IG Punjab said that timely registration of FIR is a legal and constitutional right of every citizen and in this regard, an advisory has been issued by police for  awareness of citizens in providing justice to the victims through prompt registration of FIRs and quality investigation.   IG Punjab said that according to the nature of each crime, the timelines of registration of  cases have been fixed and sent to all the police stations of the province.
Dr. Usman Anwar said that serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom, sexual abuse  and rape cases will be registered within eight hours after submission of the application. Similarly,  in cases of theft, robbery, dacoity snatching , motorcycle and vehicle theft , the deadline for registering the case is 24 hours.  IG Punjab said that apart from these, timelines have also been fixed for registering other criminal cases without delay and without any waiting or recommendation after verifying the facts and documents.  Dr Usman Anwar said that
If any citizen faces delay or problem in lodging FIR, he can call 1787 and register his complaint.  IG Punjab said that after receiving the application in the police stations, the computerized e-tag number is provided to the applicant.  Dr. Usman Anwar said that the e-tag number contains detailed information about the rights of citizens and the duties of the police, and the investigation officer  is not authorized to ask any other questions other than the listed questions.  IG Punjab said that after the registration of the case, the stage of investigation begins and providing timely justice through standard investigation is the prime duty of the investigating officers.  Dr. Usman Anwar said that the fixed timelines of the investigation, the rights of the citizens and the details of the duties of the investigating officers are listed in the advisory of investigation and provided to every citizen.  If any investigation  shows delay in implementing the listed instructions or shows deliberate laziness, unprofessional behavior, then report him by calling 1787, there will be no delay in legal and departmental action against him under the automatic police system.  IG Punjab said that the advisory regarding registration of the case has been sent to the police stations and displayed on the boards for the awareness of the citizens.  No effort will be spared in delivery of justice to citizens therefore, they should not  feel afraid coming to police stations for their issues.   IG Punjab said that police working is being made faster and more efficient for the convenience of citizens and service delivery will be improved with the effective use of information technology.
