GUJRAT: Police arrested the suspects involved in the kidnap-cum-murder of a 24-year-old youth, saying ‘honour’ turned out to be the reason behind the incident. Gujrat City DSP Asad Ishaq and Shaheen Chowk Station House Officer Mubashar Nawaz told the reporters at a news conference on Thursday that Muzammil Hussain of Tahlipura had lodged a complaint with the police on Feb 12 that his brother, Mudassar Hussain, had been missing.

The complainant said that Mudassar had gone to meet his father at an outhouse but never reached him. A search was launched and a kidnap case was lodged against unidentified suspects. On Feb 23, the DSP said, the Industrial Estate police found the body of an unidentified man from Bhimber rainwater channel and the family identified the body as that of the missing Mudassar.  A special team of police later detained two suspects, Hafiz Salman and Waseem Shahzad, for interrogation in the case.

Both of them confessed to killing Mudassar after kidnapping him. Salman told the police that he had suspicion that the deceased had illicit relations with his sister and he made a plan to kill him with the help of his friend Waseem. The DSP said the suspects had taken Mudassar to a deserted place where they first hit him with a hammer and then shot him dead. Both of them later joined the efforts of Mudassar’s family to trace him in the locality.
