LAHORE: The Lahore police has claimed that its investigation wing has submitted challans of over 146,000 registered criminal cases in the courts during 2022 and that the number is much higher that that of the 2021. According to a report, the police arrested total 153,129 accused persons in the cases registered against them and recovered from them Rs5.44 billion during the same period.
The investigation police claimed to have arrested 2,383 ‘criminals’ who were members of 972 gangs operating in the provincial capital, recovering over Rs810 million from them. They had looted this amount from the people at gunpoint in various areas of the city. The report further stated that the investigation police also arrested 872 murder suspects in the cases lodged against them under section 302 of the PPC.
The police also traced blind murder cases, arresting 24 suspects and sending them behind the bars. In the kidnap-for-ransom cases, the police arrested 30 suspects and submitted challans in 10 of the cases in the courts, the report claimed. In a massive crackdown on the proclaimed offenders, court absconders and others, the police arrested 2,240 accused persons of category A and 7,264 of category B, besides 5,309 others, during 2022.
About the performance of anti-vehicle lifting squad, the report claimed the wing recovered 11,433 vehicles, including 333 cars, which were snatched by the criminals at gunpoint. Similarly, the police claimed to have recovered 268 women in 3,081 kidnap cases lodged at various police stations of the city during the same period. Of the total women’s kidnap cases registered, 2,872 were discharged owning to the multiple reasons, the report says. Similarly, total 843 child kidnap cases were registered at various police stations of the city in 2022. Of them, 196 children were recovered, while 773 other cases were discharged due to various reasons. As per the report, the Lahore police arrested 4,620 suspects in the 4,468 drug cases lodged in all the 84 police stations of the city in last year.
