CHINIOT: Two men were arrested with 55 bags of subsidised flour, which were being transported to the city bazaar on Saturday. Assistant Commissioner Bilal Bin Hafeez was informed that subsidised flour, meant for sale at the Sahulat Bazaar, was being transported for sale at higher rates in the open market by some flour mill officials in connivance with the staff of the food and revenue departments.
He, along with Food Grain Officer Hafiz Muhammad Yar, intercepted a cart on which 55 bags of 10kg flour were being transported. They arrested Ahmad Mukhtar, the son of Sarfraz, and Amir Ali, the son of Muhammad Ali, and seized the flour bags. A FIR was lodged against the suspects with the City Police Station by the food grain officer.
Mr Hafeez told Dawn the district government was providing 8,000 10kg flour bags daily to the people at subsidised price of Rs648 against the market price of Rs850. However, he said, some flour mill officials were selling a part of their product in the open market at inflated prices.
