GUJRANAWLA: A man, of Viniyawala, who went missing on Sunday, was retrieved dead from the Upper Chenab canal on Tuesday. The family alleged Imran Shaukat Cheema was killed by Afnan Younis Sekhon, a constable of the Arup police station. It alleged that constable Younis hired Waqar to kill Cheema. The Arup police had registered a kidnap case of Cheema on Sept 25. Cheema’s car was found outside the Arup police station.
In the FIR, Cheema’s brother said Imran Cheema called home that he was going to have dinner with constable Afnan and did not return. Afnan kept the location of his mobile phone in the city, but he took Cheema in the car to Ghammanwala where they killed him and threw the body into the canal.
The police arrested Afnan, while Rescue 1122 shifted the body to the Gujranwala DHQ Hospital.
DRUG DEALERS: Up to 80 drug dealers were arrested, and more than 53 kg of hashish and 390 litres of alcohol were seized from them in a special drive, the Hafizabad police say.
Hafizabad District Police Officer Anwar Saeed Kingra said the Hafizabad police began a special campaign against drug dealers last week. He said drug dealers are the scourge of society, against whom a special campaign is underway. He said Hafizabad would be drug-free soon.
