IG Punjab made a surprise visit to the police control room set up for the by-elections. Issued instructions while reviewing staff working.
Inspector General Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that the police force is fully alert for the peaceful conduct of by-elections in 14 districts of the province and during this important national responsibility, the police teams are fully supporting and cooperating with the Provincial Election Commission. IG Punjab said that more than 52 thousand personnel and officers have been appointed for the security of the by-elections in 20 constituencies of 14 districts of the province who will ensure the performance of duties with hard work, honesty and sincerity. IG Punjab said that security personnel have been deployed at more than 3100 polling stations across Punjab, who will remain on duty until the election process is completed. He said that personnel can be called immediately from other districts for deployment in emergency situations. IG Punjab said that the supervisory officers in all the sensitive districts including Lahore and Multan should ensure monitoring of the election security arrangements and that no attempt to disrupt the peace should be allowed to succeed. Rao Sardar Ali Khan directed that personnel should be kept on high alert even in districts where elections are not being held, while effective arrangements for security as well as traffic management should be ensured in districts with by-elections so that the citizens who come for voting do not face any difficulties or problems. He expressed these views while reviewing the overall arrangements during a surprise visit to the control room established for the security of the by-elections at the Central Police Office.
IG Punjab directed the officers that the control room will be active 24 hours, ensure close communication with Election Commission and related institutions. AIG Operations while giving a briefing said that the Central Police Office control room has been linked with the control rooms of the by-election districts. He said that the police teams are ready for immediate action on the violation of the code of conduct of the Election Commission during the election process and the routes will be monitored during the safe delivery of election materials and ballot boxes. IG Punjab reviewed the working and information delivery system and ordered all the staff to be on high alert to ensure the performance of duties with full honesty and transparency.
