This year, 18883 cases were registered against drug smugglers and dealers across the province and 19218 criminals were arrested.  Punjab Police Spokesperson

On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, crackdown is being carried out across the province to eradicate the scourge of drugs and swift action is being taken against smugglers, dealers and other criminals involved in the heinous drug smuggling.   IG Punjab has directed all RPOs and DPOs of the province to formulate an action plan under their personal supervision for rounding up big groups involved drugs business.   Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that crackdown on use of modern narcotic drugs especially glass, ice, hashish, heroin and alcohol should be intensified so that the young generation could be protected from the scourge of drugs to the fullest extent.  Rao Sardar Ali Khan has directed that action be taken against those involved in drug use and sale in the vicinity of educational institutions and hostels across the province. He laid emphasis upon arrest of ruthless accused providing supply chain and brought them to book.

Spokesperson Punjab Police said details of operations against drug dealers in all districts of the province during the current year have so far registered 18883 cases against smugglers and dealers involved in drug supply chain.  19218 drug dealers, smugglers and criminals involved in smuggling were arrested.  Punjab Police Spokesperson said that 9215.741 kg of charas, 270 kg of heroin, 19604 grams of ice and 380964 liters of liquor were recovered from possession of the accused.  The provincial capital Lahore has so far this year registered 2840 cases against drug dealers and 2869 persons have been arrested while 1193.211 kg of charas, 22 kg of heroin, 3601 g of ice and 21060 liters of liquor have been recovered from possession of arrested persons in Lahore.  IG Punjab directed that the ongoing awareness campaign in public and private educational institutions in collaboration with the Department of Schools and Higher Education should be made more effective so that students and citizens could be protected from drug menace as much as possible.  He directed that information sharing and coordination with other government agencies working for drug eradication should also be improved so that there would be no gap left in eradicating the activities of drug dealers.
