This year, 16,714 cases were registered against smugglers and dealers involved in drug supply chain across the province while 17,174 were arrested.

8347 kg of charas, 269 kg of heroin, 13440 g of ice (meth) and 271940 liters of liquor were recovered from  possession of  accused.

On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, intelligence based operations are underway across the province for drug eradication.   IG Punjab has directed the RPOs and DPOs to ensure timely action under personal supervision to arrest the culprits involved in the heinous drug menace.  He said that crackdown on the use of modern narcotics like sheesha, ice (meth) charas, heroin and alcohol should be intensified so that the young generation could be protected from the scourge of drugs to the fullest extent.  Rao Sardar Ali Khan has directed that action be taken against those involved in drug use and sale in educational institutions and hostels across the province. He emphasised upon rounding up of ruthless accused providing supply chain. Spokesperson Punjab Police said that during the first four months of this year, 16,714 cases were registered against smugglers and dealers involved in drug supply chain across the province.  While 17174 drug dealers, smugglers and criminals involved in this heinous smuggling were arrested.  Punjab Police Spokesperson said that 8347 kilograms of charas, 269 kilograms of heroin, 13440 grams of ice(meth) and 271940 liters of liquor were recovered from  possession of  accused.  Similarly, 2438 cases were registered against drug dealers in Lahore and 2482 persons were arrested while 1171 kgs of charas, 22 kgs of heroin, 103 gms of ice and 17979 liters of liquor were seized from possession of arrested persons in Lahore.  Spokesperson  Punjab Police said that in Sheikhupura region 1236 cases were registered against drug dealers and 1316 persons were arrested while 832 kgs of charas,  36 kgs of heroin, 566 gms of ice and 15409 liters of liquor were recovered from  possession of  arrested persons.  In  Gujranwala, 2564 cases were registered against drug dealers and 2819 persons were arrested while 1518 kgs of charas, 26 kgs of heroin, 2.012 gms of ice and 14502 liters of liquor were recovered.  In Rawalpindi region, 1586 cases were registered against drug dealers and 1602 persons were arrested while 928 kgs of charas, 29 kgs of heroin, 2653 gms of ice and 8130 liters of liquor were recovered . Similarly,  In Sargodha region, 797 cases were registered against drug dealers and 764 persons were handcuffed while 481 kgs of charas , 42 kgs of heroin, 60 gms of ice and 15434 liters of liquor were recovered from  possession of  arrested persons.  In addition to it , 2208 cases were registered against drug dealers in Faisalabad region, 2213 persons were arrested while 988 grams of charas, 23 kg of heroin, 7569 grams of ice and 74214 liters of liquor were recovered from  possession of  arrested persons.  In Multan region , 2416 cases were registered against drugs dealers and 2435 accused were arrested  whereas 1363.59 kg of charas,  30 kg of heroin, 160 gms of ice and 45478 liters of liquor were recovered.  In Sahiwal region 1155 cases were registered against drug dealers and 1189 persons were arrested while 490 kg of charas , 47 kg of heroin and 14931 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.  In DG Khan region, 891 cases were registered against drug dealers and 897 persons were arrested while 271 kgs of charas , 07 kgs of heroin, 06 kgs of ice ( meth) and 18625 liters of liquor were recovered from  possession of arrested persons.  In Bahawalpur region 1423 cases were registered against drug dealers and 1457 persons were taken behind the bars  while 304 kgs of charas, 07 kgs of heroin, 311 gms of ice and 47238 liters of liquor were recovered from possession of the arrested persons. Spokesperson Punjab Police said that an awareness campaign is being launched in public and private educational institutions on the dangers of drugs and prevention of their use so that students and citizens could be protected from the ravages of drugs as much as possible.
