On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, foolproof security arrangements were ensured on the occasion of the second Friday of the month of Ramadan and Good Friday of the Christian community. In this regard, thousands of personnel and officers performed security duties of mosques, madrassas, imambargahs and Christian places of worship. IG Punjab had directed RPOs and DPOs to formulate a security plan for the second Friday of the month of Ramadan and Good Friday under their personal supervision and make full use of modern technology i.e walkthrough gates, metal detectors and CCTV cameras for effective monitoring. In light of these orders, security was on high alert throughout the province on the second Friday of month of Ramadan and on the holy day of Christian Good Friday. Muslim and Christian citizens performed their prayers with religious fervor.
Spokesperson Punjab Police said that CPOs, DPOs of all districts made special security arrangements at mosques and madrassas on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Mubarak and security of mosques and imambargahs was ensured in accordance with SOPs in collaboration with the organizers. He said that security duties of 2361 programs of Good Friday are being carried out by 11040 officers and personnel across the province. The security staff consisted of 338 DSPs, 412 inspectors, 464 sub-inspectors, 1250 assistant sub-inspectors, 757 head constables and 7819 constables while 153 walk-through gates, 1778 metal detectors and 1776 CCTV cameras were also used in the security arrangements. On the occasion of Good Friday in the provincial capital Lahore, 1176 officers and personnel were on duty for the security of 622 programs while teams of Dolphin, Peru and Patrol Forces continued patrolling in the vicinity of important churches. Punjab Police Spokesperson further said that as per the instructions of IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, arrangements would be made for the security of Christian places of worship on the occasion of Easter as well under a comprehensive strategy and thousands of officers and personnel shall perform their security duties to provide a peaceful environment to christian citizens on this occasion.
