A total of 6005 cases of violation of laws on highways were  registered across province.  Punjab Police Spokesperson

3965 cases of violation of traffic rules, 231 cases of possession of illegal weapons and 259 cases of drug offenses were registered.

Punjab Highway Patrol recovered 14 Kalashnikovs, 17 rifles, 19 guns and 180 pistols from the accused.

IG Punjab directs PHP teams on highways to make field patrolling more effective in their beat areas.

On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Khan, Punjab Highway Patrol teams are highly alert on all highways of the province for the protection of life and property of the people, prevention of accidents and smooth flow of traffic. First Response Force is also performing its duties diligently in their concerned beat areas.  IG Punjab directed PHP teams to take preferential steps for making field patrolling more effective in their beat areas so that prevention of crime as well as safety of citizens could be ensured.   Rao Sardar Ali Khan directed Additional IGP PHP to expedite inspection by conducting field visits to monitor the performance of all regions and more improvement in this regard. Spokesperson of Punjab Police said that the Punjab Highway Patrol teams are working day and night to serve the citizens on the highways round the clock under their commitment of "Safe Highways, Safe People".  He said that during January and February, PHP teams registered 6005 cases including 3965 cases of violation of traffic rules, 231 cases of illegal possession of arms and 259 cases of drug & alcohol offenses.  Punjab Highway Patrol has registered 3962 cases for over-speeding and violation of other traffic rules, 80 cases for installing green number plates and blue lights, 47 cases for violating Sound Act, 695 cases for installing bogus number plates and 596 cases for installing illegal cylinders in public transport.    The police lodged 231 cases of illegal possession and display of weapons and recovered 14 Kalashnikovs, 17 rifles, 19 guns, 180 pistols. It also registered 259 cases of drug trafficking and recovered 4026 liters of liquor and 21.67 kg of hashish from the possession of accused.  Meanwhile, Punjab Highway Patrol also arrested 207 proclaimed offenders and 127 court absconders. Punjab Highway Patrol also helped out 24170 passengers in distress during traveling and reunited 146 missing children with their parents.  Besides, they also recovered 5115 kg of unhealthy meat, 10680 kites, 280 kite pulleys, 04 stolen motorcycles. PHP also took action against illegal encroachments on highways and eliminated 1651 temporary and permanent encroachments. Additional IGP PHP Shahid Hanif said that protection of life and property of the people and selfless service is the mission of PHP and with this spirit, PHP officers and personnel should further improve their performance by strictly ensuring prevention of  traffic accidents and obedience of traffic laws.
