LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Sardar Ali Khan has ordered a massive crackdown on dealers involved in the manufacture and sale of illegal arms across the province. He asked supervisory officers to check the sale and purchase of illegal and proscribed arms and get revoked the licenses of the dealers involved in illegal working. At a meeting here on Wednesday, he said SHOs would be held responsible if illegal arms trade was caught in their respective jurisdiction.

He directed supervisory officers to ensure the regular inspection of the stock of arms dealers and checking of licenses in their districts. He ordered action against those dealers who exceed the limit of their stock and keep the arms of the proscribed bore. He said a crackdown should be carried out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. He said that in case of the use of licensed arms in criminal cases, close coordination should be maintained with the agencies concerned. He said that those who commit aerial firing or display of weapons do not deserve any sympathy. He said that those sharing videos of arms display and aerial firing on social media apps should be arrested.
