DIG Headquarters, Farooq Mazhar briefed about the police structure, H.R Position, operational strategy, functioning of model police stations, installation of security cameras in Lahore and computerization of police station’s record management in detail. He further told that in Pakistan per person per annum security expenditures are 7.6 dollars, in India this ratio is 15.9 dollars, in Turkey 135 and in London these expenditures are 754 dollars.

 

During the briefing AIG Finance, Hussain Habib Imtiaz told the Interior minister that the total Punjab police force is 177000. He briefed that 82% of the total budget being spent on the salaries and allowances, whereas, the rest of 18% budget is spent on POL, Utility Bills, Purchase of Uniform and operational activities etc.

 

While briefing about the appointment of 100 civilian staff including 20 women police station assistants, Hussain Habib told that all the expenditures in this regard will be managed from the existing police budget. He further told that all these appointments will be made through National Testing Service (NTS) and for the purpose the relevant advertisement was already been published in press. He further briefed that with the induction of these police station assistants, not only the police station record could be computerized but the appointment of women police station assistants will provide comfortable atmosphere to the women complainants.

 

I.G Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera also told the minister that first time, service history, discipline, reward and training data of 10000 police officers and officials has been computerized so far, whereas, the rest of the data of the force will be completed within next few months. He further told that the first batch of 20 police officers will leave shortly for Turkey for Dolphin Police Training. It is pertinent to mention here that DPS is meant for curbing street crimes in Lahore.

 

Provincial Home Minister, Shujaa Khanzada appreciated the initiatives and steps being taken by the IGP for the improvement of Punjab police specially the IT oriented initiatives. The minister assured the IGP for his full cooperation in this regard. IGP thanked the minister for expressing his satisfaction over the performance of the department.
