A decision to start serious crack down across Punjab against drug peddlers / narcotic dealers, who are directly responsible for the spread of this menace in the society was decided in a meeting by Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, held in his office.
Provincial Police Chief directed the officers to carry out the raids and take legal action against these drug peddlers instead of targeting those who consume narcotics as they needed rehabilitation by state as well as society.
All field officers were also directed to launch a vigorous campaign against these dealers who are directly involved in this heinous crime.
Meanwhile, on receiving information regarding the alleged raids being conducted by junior police officers in Hotels, Guest Houses and Sarais without bringing into the notice of senior police officers by misusing their powers and caused undue harassment to the families residing in these hotels, guest houses and sarais. It was also observed that junior police officials generally conduct such raids just to grab money from the owners. This act of junior police officials not only disturb respectable families but also brings bad name to police department.
In this prospect, Inspector General of Police directed the field police officers that in future such raids could be conducted only with the permission of the concerned SP after getting precise information that a specific hotel, guest house and sarai is being used as hide out for criminal activities.
