PMA welcomes security at hospitals
LAHORE: THE Pakistan Medical Association has lauded Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Javed Iqbal for issuing orders to the Lahore CCPO and DPOs of other districts to provide security to the 18 teaching hospitals of the province.
According to a press release here on Sunday, PMA office-bearers Dr Tanveer Anwar, Dr Izhar Ahmed Chaudhry, Dr Ashraf Nizami, Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Ihsan-ur-Rehman, Dr Yasmin Ehsan, Dr Kamran Saeed and Dr Salman Kazmi have welcomed the decision of the IGP Punjab and hoped that the capital city police chief and district police officers would ensure compliance of the orders and deploy police official at least at the emergency wards.
The PMA office-officers have said manhandling of doctors by armed attendants in the emergency wards and consequent strikes by the junior doctors in the emergency wards was a matter of great concern for the public and it was high time that this issue was resolved as the hospital security was usually helpless in front of armed attendants.
Earlier there were only 46 police men for the security of the 18 teaching hospitals and the Punjab police chief had now promised to increase their strength and provide security to doctors at least at the level of emergency wards.
The PMA has sent letters to the heads of the nine medical institutions in the city and requested them to get the police personnel deployed at their hospitals in consultation with the CCPO.
