Since the uncertainty regarding the postings and transfers in the police department is over, all the officers must move into field to fight crimes and to provide protection to the lives of and properties of the public. In addition to the counter-terrorism department (CTD), the entire police force should be prepared to confront the challenge of terrorism in the Punjab province.
Inspector General of Police (Punjab) Khan Baig expressed these views while addressing his maiden RPO Conference at the Central Police Office (CPO) today. AddI. Khan, Akhtar Umer Hayat Lalayka, DIG Headquaters, Muhammad Amlish, DIG Establishment, Amjad Javeed Saleemi, CCPO Lahore, Muhammad Shafique, DIG Investigation, Lahore, Zulfiqar Hameed, DIG Operations, Lahore, Muhammad Tahir Rai, were also attended the meeting.
It was decided in the conference that all the station house officers (SHOs) would not only help the WAPDA and SNGPL identify the electricity and gas theft in their jurisdiction but they would also take strict action as per law against the thieves involved in such practice. The meeting also decided that lawyers, witnesses and complainants must be provided foolproof security in the courts premises. The IGP Punjab directed all the RPOs and DPOs to implement a security plan in this regard in their respective regions. It was also decided to revise the black-book involving hardened criminals and the matters of cash-award on the arrest of proclaimed offenders should be solved at the earliest.
The IGP Punjab also stressed upon the officers to directly inform the top authorities about the cases of heinous crimes taking place in their areas while the concerned RPOs and DPOs would be bound to clarify any news item printed or broadcast to this effect.
The conference also reviewed in detail the cases pertaining to murder, sectarianism, dacoity-cum-murder, kidnapping for ransom, custodial killings, jailbreak, top-10 and top-20 proclaimed offenders, and the persons included in the police fourth schedule.
The IGP ordered the officers to work hard to downgrade crimes and to redress the grievances of the pubic.
It was also decided that the investigation police would be equipped with latest technology in order to carry out investigations into the criminal cases on scientific basis.
The security strategy for the holy month of Ramazan was also finalized in the meeting so that foolproof security could be ensured around the religious places, important buildings, trade centers, and leading roads. The Punjab IGP also ordered the officers to deploy additional police force when and where is required under special circumstances.
