Sheikhupura criminals curbed: RPO
LAHORE: RPO Sheikhupura Range, DIG Zulfiqar Cheema, has said the Sheikhupura district, which had become replica of Waziristan due to heinous crimes, has been turned into a land of peace within a month.
He expressed these views while addressing the participants of open court at the town hall in Sheikhupura Wednesday. Cheema said Sheikhupura Range has been given to him as a case study to curtail crimes as the people of this city had started demanding army operation to control heinous crimes including dacoity-cum-murder, kidnapping for ransom and brutal killings.
Addressing the complainants and representatives of different walks of life, DIG Cheema claimed that hardened criminals have been eliminated from the area. He also gave ultimatum to the remaining members of criminals gangs to surrender before the police within five days other wise they would be dealt with an iron hand.
Zulfiqar Cheema said the morals of honest police officials and officers had boosted by discouraging corrupt and delinquent officials as he had started ‘Operation Cleanup’ from his department from day one.
He also warned that every policeman and influential, who would try to become hurdle in the way of rightful, would be arrested without any discrimination.
He said now police pickets have been set up at the crime hit area where robbers uses to set up ‘Daku-Naka’ for looting citizens. Pointing out increasing incidents of firing in the air during wedding ceremonies, the DIG said he has enforced Section 144 in the entire district under which nobody can display legal or illegal weapons.
Cheema also appreciated the performance of Sheikhupura DPO Dr Haider Ashraf and his entire team and directed them to continue this effort for the security of lives and properties.
RPO told reporters that they had also conducted raids on drug pushers and there is a need to further enhance crackdown on them to save the future of youth.
Meanwhile, Sheikhupura DPO also took oath from all police officials that they would not misuse powers. People from different walks of life including traders’ community and lawyers also spoke and termed the induction of Zulfiqar Cheema a positive move for the security of lives and properties.
RPO also listened to the complaints of a large number of citizens and issued on the spot orders for the redress of their complaints.
