Security plan for Ramazan prepared
LAHORE: City Police has chalked out a security plan for the coming month of Ramazan in order to avoid any untoward incident across the metropolis, Daily Times learnt on Sunday.
The plan has been devised to control any possible acts of terrorism, during and before the month of Ramzan as well as on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, in the wake of brewing security situation across the country and increasing incidents of robbery and dacoity.
Talking to Daily Times on Sunday, a senior police officer said that a high profile meeting of senior police officers was held to work out a “foolproof” security plan to maintain law and order in the city during the month of Ramazan and during the Eid days.
All the divisional superintendents of police (SPs), assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) and deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) from both the operation and investigation wings attended the meeting.
Moreover, he said that police high-ups had passed strict directions to police officials to ensure patrolling in their respective areas and pay surprise visits at police pickets set up within their jurisdictions, especially around mosques and other religious places.
“Upon receiving directions, all concerned police officers passed strict orders to all station house officers (SHOs) to ensure implementation of the security plan in letter and spirit in addition to guarding all important religious places, markets, bazaars and other public places within their respective jurisdictions during the month of Ramazan,” he added.
The officer said that according to the decisions taken during the meeting, administrators of all A Category mosques had been directed to make proper lighting arrangements, both inside and outside mosques, as well as in adjoining streets.
Sources from the district administration told Daily Times that the Lahore Police had been directed to seek help from the Elite Police Force if a situation so demanded. Also, they were given orders regarding constant patrolling in all those areas declared sensitive during the month of Ramazan.
SHOs serving in different police stations across the city, requesting anonymity, told Daily Times that they had held meetings with the local influential people and asked them to help law enforcement agencies by keeping an eye on suspicious activities in addition to monitoring mosques and other worship places.
While talking to the Daily Times, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Ahmad Raza Tahir, said that a special security campaign would be launched for Lahore from the first day of Ramazan. He said that provision of foolproof security would be ensured during sehri, taraveh and aftari times.
He noted that inspector level officers had now been deputed at police stations to bring about betterment in the system which would eventually lead to reduction in the crime rate.
The CCPO said that a comprehensive plan had been chalked out to provide maximum security to the citizens, for which a special campaign titled “Secure Lahore” would be launched, with effect from the first Ramazan.
