52 gangs busted

LAHORE: Investigation police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested 123 members of 52 robber gangs and recovered cash and jewellery worth Rs12 million and illegal arms from their possession in July.
 
Senior Superintendent of Police Investigation Rana Ayaz Saleem told the media at Qila Gujjar Sigh investigation headquarters that the suspects were involved in theft, robbery and robbery-cum-murder cases.
 
He said the gangs included Tayab alias Mota gang, Mahtab alias Tabi gang, Nauman alias Ganja gang, Qasim alias Changar gang, Saddi gang, Abu Bakar alias Mota gang, Altaf alias Tafa gang, Farman alias Bodi gang, Hashim gang, Akram alias Alu gang and Tanveer alias Tillu gang.
 
He said out of these 123 accused, 60 were hardcore criminals and history-sheeters. These criminals formed gangs in jails and started their activities after being released.
 
The suspects had confessed to some 306 cases of robbery and theft.
 
Police also recovered cash, cars, motorcycles, auto rickshaws, mobile phones, laptops, gold ornaments and valuables besides a large number of firearms from them.
 
The SSP Investigation said police were controlling crimes in the city and all recovered items were being given to their owners. He said looted amount worth of Rs70 million was distributed among dozens of dacoity, robbery and theft victims at Alhamra by Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains.
 
He said all investigation in-charges were directed to act against the robbery networks operating in different areas of the city and the gangs involved in car and motorcycle thefts.
 
He said special teams of anti-car lifting staff were keeping a watchful eye on entry and exit points of the city.
