192 robbers of 83 gangs held in July

LAHORE: The city police claimed on Sunday to have arrested 192 members of 83 robbery gangs during July and recovered cash and looted goods worth Rs1.8 million from them.
 
According to a news release, on the directions of police’s operation wing Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dr Haider Ashraf, raids were conducted in various city areas to implement the National Action Plan (NAP).
 
The raids were part of an operation in a all police divisions in view of rising crime ratio in the city, targeting proclaimed offenders, one-wheelers, kite flyers, smugglers and absconders in illegal weapons cases, besides prostitution and gambling dens.
 
As many as 253 cases were traced against the arrested criminals in different city areas. Cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs1.8 million were recovered from them, the release said.
 
It said the city police also arrested total 421 proclaimed offenders, 78 of them belonging to A category and 343 to B. As many as 1,281 court absconders and 494 suspects were also arrested for carrying illegal weapons. Five Kalashnikov, 21 rifles, 53 short guns, 376 revolvers, three knifes and 2,251 bullets were recovered from their possession.
 
Some 497 suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in drug dealing and 487 cases were registered against them in different police stations, it said.
 
During the raids, the police also recovered 37kg and 927 gram heroine, 89kg and 474 gram hashish and 3,366 bottles of liquor.
 
The release said more than 536 suspects were arrested from gambling dens and 100 cases were registered against them. Betting amount of Rs451,000 was recovered from them.
 
Police also claimed to have nabbed 684 suspects involved in kite flying, one-wheeling, aerial firing and violating foreigners act and 681 cases were registered against them.
