New IG to assume charge tomorrow
Javed Iqbal, the new IGP, will assume charge of his office on Friday. The Punjab government has notified his appointment as the provincial police officer. This is Iqbal’s first posting in Punjab. Earlier, he served in Azad Kashmir, Sindh and Islamabad. He was working as managing director of National Police Foundation before his appointment as Punjab IGP.
Iqbal of the 3rd Common is one year senior to Additional Inspector General (Welfare and Finance) Aftab Sultan who was also in the run for the top slot. A three-member committee -- Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa and Ahsan Iqbal -- interviewed candidates and recommended Iqbal for the post.
